Burgundy is a vast wine region - where is the ideal place to stay for wine lovers? My vote goes to the fabulous Hotel Le Cep in the town of Beaune. I had the pleasure of staying at Le Cep during my grand tour of Burgundy at La Grand Jours de Bourgogne wine industry event.

The charming city of Beaune is a perfect home base

Beaune is a wonderful base when exploring Burgundy. It’s central location as well as convenient train station allow for easy travels around the region. The town is a destination in itself, full of lovely shops, cafes, tasting rooms and restaurants. It oozes with charm amidst historic buildings and stone cobbled streets - you can just wander for hours. Beaune is also home to a myriad of cultural sites including the incredible Hospices de Beaune, one of France’s most prestigious historic buildings where the famous annual wine auction occurs. Beaune offers a great small city experience in the middle of rural France; a perfect compliment to touring in wine country.

Hotel Le Cep is ideally located

Hotel Le Cep is located on a small, quiet boulevard just around the corner from Hospices de Beaune and the hugely popular farmers market. This point cannot be understated: a quiet hotel in a European city is priceless. Beaune is a great walking city and Hotel Le Cep is conveniently located near boutiques, cafes, and tasting rooms. In fact, the entire city is easily accessible by foot from Le Cep.

Hotel Le Cep is the perfect combination of luxury and warm service

Hotel Le Cep is a five-star property whose charm originates from its historic 16th century architecture, once two private mansions. A lovely courtyard connects the two buildings - the perfect sun-filled setting for a morning café au lait.

As soon as you enter Hotel Le Cep, you immediately feel at home. The staff is incredibly welcoming and the ambience exudes coziness. The service is friendly and helpful, making dinner reservations, plotting directions on the map, and mixing delicious cocktails at the bar.

With just 64 rooms on three floors, this intimate hotel offers a nice variety of room categories, each uniquely decorated in its own distinct flair and named after a Burgundian wine. The decor is traditional French, with fine art, antiques and luxurious fabrics. If you are looking for a quintessential experience, this is it.

Dining at Hotel Le Cep is a highlight of any stay, beginning with the incredible breakfast buffet served in the breakfast cellar. Never mind the buttery croissants, farm fresh eggs or the white burgundy offered - the setting alone is extraordinary! The Michelin-starred restaurant Loiseau des Vignes is located adjacent to the hotel and offers an impressive collection of Burgundian wines by the glass as well as the bottle. Perhaps what I loved most was enjoying a Kir and hors d’oevres by the fireplace in the lounge. And if you would like to host a private dinner or event, the hotel has recently unveiled a wine cave where the sommelier and chef can create an incredible experience for you and your guests.

Let’s face it - wine tasting can be hard work. Enter the spa - from massages to the latest French beauty treatment, the Marie de Bourgogne Spa at Le Cep is a nice retreat. I personally like to schedule a spa appointment after a long flight - the ultimate way to kick off a relaxing getaway.

Highly recommend Hotel Le Cep

Hotel Le Cep is truly a special place. With luxurious accommodations in an ideal location, it makes for a great home base when touring Burgundy.
